Captain Peter Wilde Harts (1837-1919) was appointed by President Lincoln to Company C, 67th US Colored Infantry as Captain on February 22, 1864.

Born in Pennsylvania, Peter Harts completed a law degree at the former University of Chicago in 1861. Following the service as a captain for the Union cause, he moved to Springfield with his wife. He became a proprietor for 27 years of a drug store and a book store. He eventually moved into real estate. His son, Brigadier General William Wright Harts (1866-1961), served in the U.S. Army from 1888-1929 and was an aide to President Wilson from 1913-1918.

Harry H. Devereux (1866-1926) was a mayor of Springfield and resident of 1317 Lowell.
