Judge Lawrence Elmer Stone (1875-1946)

Judge Lawrence Elmer was a judge of the Sangamon County Circuit beginning in 1932. He held an all time state record for having his decisions upheld by higher courts. He became a judge when he was elected to fill the uncompleted term of judge Charles G. Briggle, who was appointed judge of the local federal court. In 1940, Judge Stone was elected by the state Democratic convention as a delegate to the national convention.
