Among the early owners of 1521 Whittier were Rice Austin Medaris (1864-1916) and his wife Mary. Rice founded the Medaris Construction Company and operated it with his two sons who were Lloyd and Lester. After the death of Rice, the family continued to live at this address. In 1927, Irene Medaris, the daughter, married Dr. Charles F. Harmon (1883-1965), who continued to live at this address until 1943. Dr. Harmon graduated with his degree from Washington University in 1910 and he practiced medicine until 1954. A veteran of WWI, his photograph is below.
