Joseph Figueira (1873-1953) was born in Springfield. His parents were part of the Portuguese resettlement in central Illinois in 1849. He was a star baseball player, contractor and brick mason. He was the brick contractor for the Dana Thomas house when Frank Lloyd Wright built it at the turn of the last century. In the years ahead, he was always active in Springfield politics. He was a member of the city counsel.
