Rice Tyler Briggle (1856-1928) was the first owner of 1612 Lowell. He was a farmer whose land and livestock were just east of Riverton. His son, Charles Briggle, and grandchildren lived at 1605 Lowell during the few years he resided across from them.

Benjamin S. DeBoice (1889-1982)

Benjamin S. DeBoice was a probate judge for Sangamon county from 1930-1950. Prior to his retirement in 1969, he was an attorney. A fixture and a great raconteur of local politics, he was a frequent speaker on the political circuit expounding the GOP philosophy. DeBoice was an elected delegate to the Republican national convention in 1940; and he attended all of them between 1916-1952, with the exception of 1924 when the choice of Coolidge was a foregone conclusion. He gave an interview of 90, still weighing his typical 250 pounds. He remarked that the only indication of his age was his increasing proclivity to reminiscence. SJR Interview 1979
