The first owners of 1407, formerly 1347, were Henry James Dudley and Margaret Turnham Dudley. Henry was a wholesale and retail dealer in the city affiliated with the Springfield Coal Mining Co. as well as the Woodside Company and West End Coal Company. Their daughter Eloise Mary Schermerhorn (1899-1989) and her husband Roland Earl Schermerhorn (1897-1979) would also reside at 1407. It is one of the longest continuous family residencies in Hawthorne Place. 85 years!
